The capital of the mighty Ahom Kingdom from twelfth to eighteenth century, Sivasagar is a unique treasure trove of historical and architectural wonders of Assam. With several majestic artificial ponds in and around the town, Sivasagar is also called the town of ponds. The majestic Talatal Ghar, the grand Rang Ghar, the Kareng Ghar and the sacred Shiva Dol and Vishnu Dol temples are embodiments of the Ahom architecture. One can explore the fascinating history and culture of the Ahom kingdom by a journey through a collection of artefacts and paintings in The Ahom Museum. Sivasagar is two and half hours’ drive from Tinsukia.
